China’s Education Study and Globalization Perspectives
Ding Gang Zhou Yong
Based on reviewing the available globalization perspectives in international and China’s academic research communities and the field of China’s education study, this article argues that conducting China’s education research in the perspective of globalization means analyzing how did modern Chinese educators establish modern China’s education through integrating Chinese culture and western culture, and accordingly discovering the “modern tradition of Chinese education” shaped by modern Chinese educators. This exploration will not only enrich the existing historical studies of China’s education and perceptions of the relation between globalization process and Chinese education, but provide beneficial historical lessons for China’ s education building independent international dialogue in present globalization process, and for other countries establishing harmonious and mutual understanding communications with China in the field of education and culture.

An Inquiry into General Education Model for University Undergraduate Students: A Case Study on Yuanpei Program of Peking University
Chen Xiangming Wang Zhiming
General education has been an important issue in world higher education. Although it is generally agreed that undergraduate students should receive general education, it is not clear as to what kind of model should be adopted or how to implement it. This study, based on relevant theories and historical experiences of universities at home and abroad in implementing general education, conducts a 4-year longitudinal study of the Yuanpei Program of Peking University. It aims to answer the question: How to implement general education in comprehensive research universities in China? This report mainly consists of an analysis of the definition of general education and other related concepts, the feasibility of localization of general education in China, the curriculum design in comprehensive research universities, and necessary institutional support for general education. At the end of the report, a tentative general education model is proposed for comprehensive research universities in China, based on relevant theories, historical development and, above all, the findings from the longitudinal case study of Yuanpei Program.
