Abstract A research regarding the rural stragglers under the present educational system was conducted in the villages of four provinces in China, which are Shandong, Gansu, Anhui and Guizhou. By means of surveying in the unit of community, the young stragglers’ mobility and present living condition were investigated in the context of community and educational environment. The study reveals that the situation of rural education is changing and the old educational goals must be reconsidered. It is suggested that what should be taught must be considered from the point view of the educatees. And the educatees should be offered more choices.
