Abstract The phenomenon of street children is a worldwide problem as the number of street children is increasing. Although there are numerous researches about street children, most of them focus on negative aspects rather than their inner psychological mechanism. In this research we studied on 41 street children from rescue station in Beijing and Shanghai using the classic social psychology research methods such as questionnaire, semi-structured interview survey and narrative inquiry. Research focused on street children’s psychological mechanism, resilience, defense mechanism, behavior pattern and their influence factors. In consideration with the social support, time of vagabondage, positive psychological quality, and attachment type, the research will find empirical basis to help street children successfully return to family and society to reduce the potential risk.
