Converted Schools in Shanghai: Fact, Factor & Future

Abstract Converted school is a new category of school emerging in the system reform of basic education in China. Converted schools are transformed from state-schools, however, the nature, status and future of converted schools are not decided by government. The thesis at present shows the documentary and empirical analysis on the development, categories, factors, operation, advantages and future, for discovering the features of converted schools, commons��distinctions, and value between those mixed-category schools in the world. At present, converted school in Shanghai is a kind of school to which government provide school buildings, civil-servant status of teachers and seeding fund, to which parents bear school expenditure as tuition fees. They are managed by principals and school trustees board. In short, converted schools are financial-diversified “mixed schools” with efficiency priority.
